Face to face at your school or college
Keeping Children Safe in Education states that: All staff should receive appropriate safeguarding and child protection training (including online safety which, amongst other things, includes an understanding of the expectations, applicable roles and responsibilities in relation to filtering and monitoring at induction. The training should be regularly updated. In addition, all staff should receive safeguarding and child protection (including online safety) updates (for example, via email, e-bulletins, and staff meetings), as required, and at least annually, to continue to provide them with relevant skills and knowledge to safeguard children effectively.
What does this training cover?
⦁ Key changes in Keeping Children safe in Education
⦁ Understanding of the local early help process and understand their role in it
⦁ What to do if a child discloses they are being abused
⦁ Understand the key indicators of abuse and neglect
⦁ The process for making referrals to local authority children’s social care and for statutory assessments7 under the Children Act 1989
⦁ Child on child abuse
Key outcomes:
⦁ Staff can identify the different forms of abuse and are able to act in accordance with school policy and national guidance to keep all children safe. They understand that safeguarding is everyone’s business
⦁ Knowledge of the different types of child on child abuse and how to respond to it
⦁ Staff understand the role of the school in the early help process
⦁ Knowledge of the key changes to KCSIE and what these mean for safeguarding practice
⦁ A culture of safeguarding is evident in the school
*This course can be made more bespoke for each individual school context to ensure it addresses the contextual safeguarding needs of the school. The actual content of the training will be agreed in the initial planning meeting with the school*
